Collection: Deeds by Married Women 1836-1881
The Certificates of Acknowledgement of Deeds by Married Women were created in accordance with the Act for the Abolition of Fines and Recoveries and for the Substitution of more simple Modes of Assurance Act' 3 & 4 Wm IV cap 74 and paragraphs 72-101 deal with the issue of married women owning property. Specifically para 81 states the Court of Common Pleas should appoint deputies to issue these certificates to woman and that one copy should be sent to the court and a second copy given to the woman. Para 84 sets out the text the certificates should use.
